Introducing a new family member at Fonmon Castle:
Hugo, born 6th March – here he is with his very proud dad.
Named after his great Grandpa, Sir Hugo Boothby, we traced the name back through the family tree for almost a thousand years! Not bad going we thought……
Our family is originally from Lincolnshire (now Boothby Graffoe and Boothby Pagnell), the name is recorded in the Domesday Book and was recorded as Bodebi, from Old Danish both ‘hut’, ‘shed’ + bý association, ‘farm’ or ‘settlement’.
We think an Anglo Saxon ancestor changed his name to “Hugo” to sound more French and keep in with the Norman conquerors!
