Wedding photographers really love working at Fonmon Castle. Set in a beautiful rural estate in the Vale of Glamorgan, this historic venue really does leave them spoiled for choice.
Whether you are outside in almost three acres of beautiful gardens and grounds or inside the 800 year old Castle with its graceful Georgian interiors, you really are spoiled for choice when it comes to capturing the perfect images of your day
You can use the huge lawns for group photographs so that everyone gets into the shot, or arrange your family and friends under some of the beautiful mature trees. The walled gardens are full of pretty nooks and crannies and in Summer the whole place comes alive with colour when all the borders, shrubs and plants boom. In Autumn the creeper on the castle walls, blazes in a stunning red colour, providing a beautiful backdrop
Inside, the ancient books, original paintings and stunning panelling offer so many choices for close ups and groups. The Castle lends itself beautifully to both more formal or reportage style photography and because every wedding is based on exclusive use, you have the run of the place and can take your time.
Preparation is everything, you don’t want to be fussing about who stands where on the big day or whether you have got a shot of Nan with all her grandchildren. A good photographer will realise that and help you make a list of which images you want e.g. getting ready, after the ceremony, outside the church, at the reception etc etc and who you want in them. Then, get one or two (bossy) friends who will know everyone well to be your photo marshals on the day and grab the right people when its their turn. The team at the Castle are very happy to welcome you and your photographer for a visit before hand so you can choose your keys shots and then relax on the big day, safe in the knowledge you will always have the most lovely photos as memories of your big day
If by any chance your photographer doesn’t quite get the photos you want – maybe a special moment, or a good joke – don’t worry, in the days of the smart phone, every one of your guests becomes a photographer – so, just send out an email and, I am willing to bet one of your friends will have captured the shot you are looking for
Then, my only advice (from experience) is don’t delay on the album ! If you can afford it, choose the images and get the photographer to put them into a book for you. I took months to do mine and I know several friends whose treasured images are still on a disk at the back of a drawer – a sad end to all your careful preparations !
